Hokkaido is Japan’s second largest island, home to only 5% of the population. It is still seen as the nation’s last frontier; an area of wilderness with breathtaking beautiful landscapes comprising lakes, volcanoes and mountains. In the winter, with incredible powder snow and mountains, convenient infrastructure, wide range of accommodation options, Hokkaido has become a major ski and snowboard destination for snow lovers from around the world. The central region of Hokkaido offers convenient access through either Chitose (Sapporo) or Asahikawa airports, putting all the major ski areas within 2 hours of bus or train ride.

Furano is a Japanese city located by a large ski area. It is an ideal destination for anyone looking to experience Japanese culture, culinary delights while on a ski vacation. The Furano ski area speaks of its world class credential by hosting as many as 12 International Ski Federation competitions. 10 lifts service close to a thousand meters of vertical skiing spread over 25 runs for all abilities. Each year, approximately 8 meters of dry and light powder snow falls on Furano; on a clear day, skiers can also enjoy the view stretching across the valley up to the smoking volcanoes of Mt. Tokachidake.

Ninguru Terrace is a favorite for visitors and there are many foreign guests who will take a stroll through this area more than once during their time in Furano. Tucked in amongst snow covered trees is a fairy light illuminated arts and crafts village. Here you will find an array of craftsmen and artists creating their works in little cottages.

In the summer, Furano is also famous for is flower farms and lavender. It is an serene area of immense natural beauty.

Niseko is perhaps Japan’s most famous ski resort area with many foreign visitors in recent years. The resorts are located on Niseko-Annupuri Mountain with quality dry and powder snow and many long, wide ski runs and back-country skiing. There are three major resort areas: Grand Hirafu, Niseko Village, and Annupuri. They are connected at the top of the mountain, and shuttle buses connect them at the base. Grand Hirafu is the largest of the three areas with a sizable town at its base. There are a wide range of accommodation in town such as resorts, hotels, ryokans and condos. The town has an interesting range of restaurants and pubs and an active night life. The town is also very foreigner friendly and many restaurants offer English menus by default.
